Position Summary: The Northpoint ABL Business Development Officer (“BDO”) is responsible for generating and executing middle market and lower middle market asset-based loans. The BDO will source and screen new prospects in the assigned geographic territory by engaging directly with companies and developing relationships with referral sources including accountants, attorneys, bankers, turnaround professionals, and private equity groups. The BDO will be responsible for conducting meetings with shareholders and senior executives of prospective clients, structures transaction terms, and ultimately issues financing proposals that meet the client’s funding requirements while effectively managing deal risk and profitability.
The BDO should be able to analyze transactions with a high degree of complexity across a wide range of industries, including but not limited to, manufacturing, distribution, business services, transportation, technology, and retail. Familiarity with a non-bank environment and experience financing companies in turnaround, restructuring, recapitalization, or experiencing rapid growth is helpful. You will work closely with underwriters to manage the due diligence and documentation process and manage prospect expectations to reach a successful close. The BDO will attend industry events and trade shows to promote the Northpoint brand and seek opportunities to collaborate and cross sell with Northpoint team members.
Requirements:
- Proven ability to source commercial finance loans through existing network of referral sources and industry contacts.
- Five years of related industry experience, with a strong understanding of credit and collateral.
- Three years of business development experience.
- Self-starter with strong time management skills and ability to work independently.
- Strong analytical skills to summarize and present the prospect’s business model and credit rationale.
- Demonstrated presentation, sales negotiation, and influencing skills.
- At least 25% business travel required to cover assigned geographic territory.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in business, Economics, Finance or related field. MBA is a plus but not required. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instruction furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Language Ability:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as marketing materials and credit applications. Ability to construct customer facing emails, text messages and any other primary methods of correspondence on a regular basis. Ability to communicate effectively over the phone with a variety of contacts including but not limited to manufacturer and dealer clients and potential new customers.
